Grace M. Perman, age 88, left this world peacefully on Saturday October 11, 2014 to join the “Gardening” Angels in Heaven.
Grace was born in Racine on February 4, 1926 to the late Henry and Gertrude (nee:Mueller) Braun. She was united in marriage to Otto M. Perman on February 19, 1949 at St. Sebastian’s Church in Sturtevant where they remained lifetime members. Sadly, Otto preceded her in death on July 16, 2006 after 58 years of marriage. Grace lived in the house that she and Otto built themselves, block by block, until January of 2012. She then moved to Menomonee Falls, WI due to health reasons.
Along with her treasured family, Grace truly loved farming. She worked on the family vegetable farm for most of her life. From plowing fields to harvesting vegetables to sell at the well known “Planter Vegetable Stand”, Grace enjoyed it all! After completing her long day on the farm, she still had enough energy to come home and work in her numerous flower gardens. Grace also found time to be an amazing cook, baker, and cake decorator. Her delicious recipes will always be treasured.
Grace never missed a chance to make the family holidays fun for her grandchildren. From shooting off fireworks, to phenomenal Easter egg hunts and overflowing Christmas stockings, she was every grandchild’s dream.
Grace was a dedicated Chicago White Sox baseball fan. She never missed listening to, or watching a game. She also had the joyous opportunity of attending a few games in Chicago. Grace even found time to volunteer her time at church, belonging many years to the Altar Society.
Grace is survived by 2 daughters, Judy (Peter) Stockton of Germantown and Susan (Lyle) Tryba of Racine; 2 loving grandchildren, Jason Smith of Madison, and Ashley (Ken) Kiepczynski; 2 precious great -grandchildren, Hugo Eilla and Elsa Allison who brought her many joyful moments; brother, Jack (Miriam) Braun; sister-in-law, Evelyn (Perman) Loughan, and brother-in-law, Ray Perman; nieces, nephews and other relatives and special friends including Veronica & Ernie Tryba.
Besides her husband Otto, and her parents, Henry and Gertrude, Grace was also preceded in death by two sisters, Angeline “Onnie” Gifford and Gertrude “Pinky” Greene. Most precious of all, Grace was preceded in death by her special grandchild, Allison Sue Tryba. We are sure that Allison has Grandma Grace by the hand showing her all around Heaven.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, October 15, 2014 in St. Sebastian Catholic Church (3126 – 95th Street in Sturtevant) at 11:00 am with Rev. Mark R. Jones officiating. Private entombment will follow in the mausoleum of Holy Cross Cemetery, Hwy 32. Visitation will be in St. Sebastian Church on Wednesday from 10-11 am. Memorials to CdLS Foundation or Zilber Family Hospice.
A heart warming thank you to all of our family, friends, and co-workers for their thoughts and prayers over the last 3 weeks. Also, to the many caring staff members at Zilber Family Hospice for making our Mom’s journey to Heaven a loving, peaceful experience.
