Porter, Russell E., 77 a loving husband, father and grandfather of Triadelphia, WV, died Thursday, September 6, 2012
in Wheeling Hospital.
He was born September 4, 1935 in Wheeling, a son of the late Rayburn and Jennie Marie Klug Porter.
He was a pilot and Captain for United Airlines for more than 30 years, served as a Lieutenant in the US Navy where
he earned his wings and was awarded Patrol Plane Commander and the Seal of Fleet Air Wing 3 for command of a
combat crew in 1965.
He was a Lutheran by faith, life member of the Elm Grove FOE # 1891, Warwood Vet's, Cave Club, Nelson Lodge
#30, Ohio #1 and the Scottish Rite.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by four brothers, Melvin, Cecil, Herb and James Porter, two
sisters, Phyllis Tubaugh and Shirley Hodgkiss.
Surviving is his wife, Sandra Kathryn McKeen Porter, four children, Tim (Michele) Porter of Mich; Mark (Barbara)
Porter, Karen Hammerquist, Kimberly (Jason) Bradley all of Wheeling; one brother, Richard Porter of Ohio; 15
grandchildren, one great grandchild, several nieces and nephews.
Friends received 123 and 47 p.m. Sunday, September 9, 2012 at the Altmeyer Funeral Home, 154 Kruger Street,
Wheeling, where funeral services will be held at 7:00 p.m. Sunday.
Russell was always willing to help and give to others and as a final act of generosity, he gave the gift of life through
CORE.
