Marieanne passed away peacefully Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2014, surrounded by her family and loving caregivers in Fischer Cottage at St. John's Lutheran Ministries. She was born to Charles and Cecelia (Zent) Carroll on March 30, 1932, in Billings, joining brothers Matt and Jack. Growing up, she lived in Billings and Hysham, attending St. Patrick's High School and graduating from Hysham High School.
Marieanne received her degree in Music from the University of Montana. She taught music in the Anaconda and Park City schools before setting up a piano studio in Billings where she worked with children and adult students for over 50 years. She gave back to the St. Patrick's parish as a church musician, just recently retiring. Marieanne was a life long member of the local, state and national Music Teacher's Associations.
As a community member, Marieanne served as the Urban Representative on the Yellowstone Conservation Board for twenty-nine years. She also served as the Chairperson of the Education Committee for the Montana Association of Conservation Districts and was instrumental in establishing the Canon Envirothon program for Montana.
Marieanne is survived by her husband of fifty-eight years, Harold Hanser; their three children; grandchildren and great grandchildren; a large extended family; and innumerable friends. Stephen (Luanne) Hanser – Jena (Corey) Thiel, Christina (Matthew) Warren: Andrew and Danika Warren; Stephanie Hanser – Adrean Dills (Prabhu Tirumenadi): Claire Tirumenadi, Henry Dills, Michael Dills; Jeffrey (Carol) Hanser – Katelynn, Brittany, and Ashley Hanser; Brett (Amy) Hanser – Nick Hanser.
Visitation will be 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 12. Rosary will be recited at 5:30 p.m. Monday, with vigil to follow at 6 p.m. at Dahl Chapel.
Funeral Mass will be at noon Tuesday, at St. Patrick's Co-Cathedral.
Committal will be in the Yellowstone County Veterans Cemetery in Laurel.
