I am a descendant of Gebhard Michael Menges Minges. Noted as one the "pioneers" of Rochester, NY, there are several questions about Michael's life that need to be solved. 1. The time of Michael's marriage, his death and the birth of his three youngest children in America seem to be at odds. Note the supposed date of his marriage - 1939. 2. According to the Castle Garden ship records (HINDU), a 24-year-old Chatharina, came over with him and was listed as a "wife." Likewise, a Anna Maria, age 30 traveled with them. I'm trying to determine "who" Chatharina really was. 3. According to church records here in Rochester, there was a Christening of a Mary Minges (i not e). Birth certificate document: Mary Mingis born to Michael Mingis and Catherine Cover? July 31, 1834. Christened September 14, 1835 in St. Patrick’s cathedral? Is this a different Mary Menges that was born to Michael and Anna Maria Koch. I will keep digging here in Rochester but appreciate any insight that you might have.
