Jesse Everett Swinehart, 70, Overland Park, formerly of Paola, died June 24, 2011, at the Shawnee Mission Hospital.
He was born Aug. 23, 1940, in Kansas City, KS, to Daniel and Irene Lindell Swinehart.
He grew up in the surrounding communities. In 1961 he enlisted in the United States Navy and served until 1964. On Nov. 26, 1965, he was united in marriage to Connie Macon in Paola. Together they had one son. They were married for 24 years before divorcing, but stayed best of friends.
He was a carpenter and worked for more than 20 years for the Mark Kirk Construction Company of Blue Springs, Mo., and later ventured out on his own. He was known for his fine finishing work and enjoyed building showcase homes throughout the area. His hobbies were building model and remote-controlled airplanes, drag racing motorcycles and cars; building furniture, hunting and fishing, and he enjoyed watching the History Channel. He will be greatly missed by family and friends.
Jesse was preceded in death by three sisters, Elizabeth Immes, Patricia Meeker and Alta Smith, and one brother, George Swinehart.
Survivors include his son, Matthew Swinehart of Overland Park; two brothers, Mike Swinehart of Paola and Joe Swinehart of Oklahoma; two sisters, Edna Biddle of Oklahoma and Wanda Swinehart of Osawatomie; and long-time friend Connie Macon Swinehart.
