Steven Michael Hair was born on March 2, 1945, in Cincinnati, Ohio, and died early in the morning of April 3, 2014, following a short illness.
He is survived by his loving wife of 22 years, Loretta (Faulkner), and by two sons, Douglas (Marci) and Kyle (Lindsey) as well as four grandchildren all of whom live in the Orlando, Florida area. He also leaves two brothers, David (Ann) of Hot Springs and Dan (Faith) of Dunedin, Florida, and several nieces and nephews.
His early leisure life revolved around boating trips with his family, both in the St. John's River area near Sanford, Florida and the Weeki Wachee River on the west coast where the extended Hair family had a "camp" they gathered in on weekends. He once placed a small alligator in the bathtub there, but returned him to the swamp after the hubbub died down.
Steve loved fast cars. He actually drove in local stock car races for a while and was a true NASCAR fan. He always had a workshop where his tools were arrayed in meticulous order and which also contained a working TV set, a small refrigerator and several beat up chairs to sit in so you could watch him work on something. He welded windmills for his yard and made ornaments of old rusty machine parts.
Steve was the handsome one of the three brothers. He was a hard worker. He was trained as a welder and worked his way up from a tire changer to be the manager of a large Goodyear store in Florida. He had a used car business with Loretta, but moved to Hot Springs in 1999 to do quality control at K-Tech, Inc., a business his brother Dave co-founded in 1988 in Hot Springs. He was retired.
He will be greatly missed by the small herd of deer and the scores of migratory birds who came to enjoy the treats Steve provided for them each day.
Steve was the kind of friend and neighbor who was there to help whenever he was needed. He was a good bargain spotter, and was famous for his "highway shopping". He was able to return to the owner more than one wallet he found in a parking lot or along the roadside.
There will be a celebration of his life at the Davis-Smith Funeral Home on Airport Road on Sunday April 6th at 2:00 PM.
