Charles B. "Chick" Yahner, 90, Loretto, died Tuesday. He was born in Patton, son of Theodore and Isobel Yahner. Surviving are seven children: Charlotte Santoro, Theodore, Virginia North, Mary Carolyn Adams, Margie McConnell, Mark and Pat; and 19 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Mary Hoover; a son, Clifford; and twin brothers: Albert and Robert. He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at Gibbons Funeral Home, Ashville. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 21, 2012, at Basilica of St. Michael the Archangel.

LORETTO — YAHNER – Charles B. "Chick," 90, Loretto, died Sept. 18, 2012, at home. Born March 16, 1922, in Patton, son of the late Theodore and Isobel (Thorburn) Yahner. Preceded in death by wife, the former Anna Mary "Puttsie" Hoover, on April 5, 2008; son, Clifford; and twin brothers, Albert and Robert. Survived by children, Charlotte Santoro (John), Broomfield, Col.; Theodore "Ted" (Lorraine Keal), Loretto; Virginia "Ginny" North (Larry), Coalport; Mary Carolyn "Punken" Adams (John Quincy), Ebensburg R.D.; Margie McConnell (Dale), Loretto; Mark, Loretto; and Pat (Marsha Baumgardner), Altoona; daughter-in-law, Bridget Yahner, Loretto; 19 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. He was the last member of his immediate family. Also survived by sister-in-law, Jeannine Zern Yahner, Patton; and numerous nieces and nephews. Army Air Corps veteran of World War ll, where he served as a master sergeant and was awarded the EAME Theater Service Medal. He owned and operated Loretto Service Center from 1953 until 1996. Chick enjoyed woodworking, golf, hunting, boating and playing cinch. He was awarded the Prince Gallitzin Cross in 2001. He served as president of Loretto Borough Council for many years. Former member of the Knights of Columbus. Member of Loretto Volunteer Fire Company, Loretto American Legion, Ashville VFW, Loretto Hunting Club and Basilica of St. Michael the Archangel, where funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, the Rev. Malachi Van Tassell, celebrant. Committal, church cemetery. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Gibbons Funeral Home, Ashville, where vigil service will be held. Military rites in charge of Loretto American Legion, Ashville VFW and other local military organizations. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to Dorothy Day Center, P.O.
