Leland Martinsen, 64, Burlington, ND, died Wednesday, August 24, 2005, in a Minot nursing home.
He was born on July 24, 1941, in Minot, ND, the son of Fred and Ella (Schmidt) Martinsen. Leland attended school in Velva till his junior year in high school and in 1959, graduated from Sawyer High School. After graduation he started working at a local grain elevator and later worked as a grain elevator repairman all over North Dakota, Minnesota and Montana.
Leland married Joyce (Baklenko) on November 24, 1963, at Great Stone Baptist Church, rural Benedict, ND. He worked at Souris Valley Feed and Seed for a short time then as a millwright and welder in various locations all over the United States. Leland loved the outdoors especially hunting and fishing.
Leland attended Immanuel Baptist Church in Minot and was also a member of the Trestle Valley Gun Club, Minot.
Survivors: wife Joyce, Burlington; son, Christopher Martinsen, Portland, OR; mother, Ella Martinsen, rural Benedict; brother, Galen (Gayle) Martinsen, rural Velva, ND; sisters, Andrea (Eric) Klanderman, Fairfax, VA, Judy (Raymond) Sloboden, rural Ruso, ND, and Myrna (Ron) Undlin, Minot; sister-in-law, Loretta Martinsen, Garrison, ND; numerous, brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Fred and his brother, Melvin Martinsen.
Funeral Service: Monday, August 29, 2005, at 11 a.m. at Immanuel Baptist Church, Minot.
Visitation: Saturday, August 27, 2005, and Sunday, August 28, 2005, from Noon until 5 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.
Burial: Great Stone Cemetery, rural Benedict, ND. Burial will take place at 2:30 p.m. on Monday.
