Ella Martinson, 92, Benedict, ND, died Monday, July 4, 2011, at Northwood Deaconess Long Term Health Center at Northwood, ND, after being evacuated from Trinity Nursing Home in Minot due to the flood.
Ella M. Schmidt was born May 8, 1919, to Carl and Johanna (Lenz) Schmidt of rural Velva, ND. She graduated from Velva High School in 1936.
Ella and Fred Martinson were married September 3, 1940, at Sidney, MT. They farmed and raised their family northeast of Benedict. She also was employed for a number of years in housekeeping at the hospitals in Minot. Fred passed away November 11,1983.
Ella was a lifelong member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Kongsberg, ND and was baptized and confirmed there. She was very active in the church and was president of the Lutheran Women's Missionary League for a number of years. She was an avid gardener and always welcomed guests at any time. She was known for her cookies and the jar was always filled with her specialties. She was loved by all.
Her loving family includes: daughters, Judy Sloboden, Ruso, ND, Andrea (Eric) Klanderman, Fairfax, VA and Myrna (Ron) Undlin, Minot, ND; son, Galen (Gayle) Martinson, Velva, ND; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter; daughters-in-law, Joyce Martinson, Burlington, ND and Loretta Martinson, Garrison, ND; sisters-in-law, Gladys Baluski, Ruso, ND, Viola Bradshaw, San Jacinto, CA and Betty Martinson, Brainerd, MN, and a number of nieces and nephews.
Ella was preceded in death by her husband, Fred; sons, Leland and Melvin Martinson; son-in-law, Raymond Sloboden; her parents; five sisters; and two brothers.
Funeral: Friday, July 8, 2011, at 2:00 p.m. at Peace Lutheran Church, Garrison.
Interment: St. John's Cemetery, Kongsberg, ND.
Visitation: Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.
Memorials: are preferred to Northwood Deaconess Health Long Term Care, Northwood, ND, or to St. John's Lutheran Church, Kongsberg, ND.

Ella Martinson, 92, of Benedict, died Monday, July 4, 2011, at Northwood Deaconess Long Term Health Center at Northwood after being evacuated from Trinity Nursing Home in Minot.
