Darlene Kaul, 75, Minot, went home to the Lord on Sunday, April 10, 2011, in Minot.
Darlene Caroline Martinsen was born May 23, 1935, in Harvey. She was the 11th of 12 children born to Chris and Carrie (Faul) Martinsen. She was raised on the family farm located southeast of Benedict, and educated at a country school in the area. She spent her younger years working on the family farm and caring for her parents.
After moving to Minot in 1969, Darlene worked at City Bakery for several years and later for Sweetheart Bakery. Darlene married Ruben Kaul April 27, 1981, in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. They made their home in Minot, where she continued to work for Sweetheart Bakery. She retired in September 1991. Ruben passed away Nov. 30, 2005. Following the death of her husband, she continued to reside in Minot.
She was a member of American Legion Auxiliary in Benedict.
Darlene enjoyed planting her garden every spring and maintaining it throughout the summer months. She was always very proud of her flowers and vegetables.
Surviving family includes: son, Tom (Cheryl) Kaul, North Richland Hills, Texas; daughter, Sharon (Oniel) Carter, Las Vegas; five grandchildren, Angela (Rick) Johnson, Teresa (David) Roeper, Pauline (Tracy) Crawford, Allen (Angie) Dionne and Farrah (Robert) Nuzzo; 14 great-grandchildren; niece, Betty Emerick, Bowbells; great-niece, Heidi Emerick, Bowbells; sisters, Viola Bradshaw, San Jacinto, Calif., and Gladys Baluski, Ruso; and several nieces and nephews.
Darlene was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ruben; two sisters, Hilda Schmidt and Lila Poline; and seven brothers, Fred, Albert, Lloyd, Edwin, Martin, Robert and Ted Martinsen.
Funeral: Thursday, April 14, at 11 a.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home Chapel, Minot.
Interment: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot.
