DANIEL BAKER PASSED
AWAY SUNDAY, JULY 2
Death came as a relief after a long illness to one of Spirit Lake's aged residents. Daniel Baker passed away at his home in Spirit Lake on Sunday, July 2.
Daniel Baker, son of Jacob and Elizabeth (Bradle) Baker, was born August 29, 1862, near Eureka, in Woodford county, ILL. He was baptized in the Lutheran church as a child.
On February 16, 1892, he was united in marriage to Mary M. Letcher. To this union were born four children; Otto, who preceded him in death 12 years ago; Elma Baker Rhoades of Ladysmith, Wis.; and Avalt L. Baker of Spirit Lake, and a child which died in infancy.
He leaves to mourn his death besides his wife and two children, 12 grandchildren, two brothers, Jacob and John Baker of Claypool, Ind., and two sisters, Mrs. Emma Reeser of Congerville, ILL., and Mrs. John Wingstern of Secor, ILL.
Mr. Baker passed away on July 2, 1939, at his home in Spirit Lake, at the age of 76 years, 10 months and 3 days of age.
Mr. Baker was a loving husband, father and grandfather. For many years he farmed near Spirit Lake, having moved to town only a few years ago. Mr. Baker was a man who always thought of his home and family first.
The last rites were held Wednesday afternoon, July 5, at 2 o'clock from the Methodist church with the Rev. Roy H. Cox officiating. Interment was made in the Lakeview Cemetery.
Mr. Baker's daughter, Mrs. Oscar Rhoades and family of Ladysmith, Wis., came Tuesday evening to attend the funeral. His sister, Mrs. Emma Reeser of Congerville, ILL., and Mrs. John Wingstern of Secor, ILL., came Sunday but due to illness of relatives in Illinois were called back home on Tuesday. Mrs. baker's brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. John Iselman and their son, Frank Iselman and wife came Wednesday morning from LaPorte, Ind., for the funeral and returned to their home Wednesday evening.
