JOHNSTOWN DAILY TRIBUNE, APRIL 16, 1908
MRS. LOUISA SWOPE, relict of Joseph P. Swope, and a former well known resident of the north of the county died at 5:30 o'clock this morning of heart trouble, at the home of her son A. H. Swope, No 152 Adams street. She had been ill for the past six months. Mrs. Swope was born in New Bethlehem on March 3, 1838. She was the eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Francis Glasser. While still a small child the family of Mrs. Swope removed to what is now Elder Township and were among the first settlers in that part of the county. Mrs. Swope was married twice, her first husband, Joseph Bauman, dying about forty three years ago. She was wedded in 1867 to Joseph P. Swope, who died about two years ago. Shortly after her marriage to the second husband, which was solemnized in Wilkes-Barre, Mrs. Swope removed with him to Chest Township, where she resided until the death of her husband. Since then she had made her home in this city. Mrs. Swope was the mother of nine children; two of whom have preceded her to the grave. They were Mrs. Agnes Abel, of Hastings and Edward Bauman of Wilkes-Barre. The surviving children are as follows; Joseph Bauman of Wilkes-Barre; Frank Bauman of Patton; Peter M. Swope, of Carrolltown and A. J., J. R., A. H., and H J. Swope, the four members of the well known flour and feed firm on Locus street. She is also survived by the following brothers and sisters: Valentine Glasser, of Clearfield; Peter Glasser, of Cresson; Augustine Glasser, of Spangler; Mrs. David O'Hara, of Ebensburg, Mrs. J. J. Thomas, of Patton, and Mrs. Margaret Abel, of Hastings. The funeral will take place on Saturday morning. The remains will be taken from this city to Patton of the 7:28 o'clock train.
