Gladys Berger peacefully departed this earth on Tuesday, March 15, 2016 at the Wibaux County Nursing Home in Wibaux, Montana. Visitation will be held from 9:00 A.M. until 5:00 P.M. and from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. on Thursday, March 17, 2016 at the Silha Funeral Home in Beach, North Dakota. A Prayer Service will be held at 7:00 P.M. on Thursday, March 17, 2016 at the Silha Funeral Home in Beach. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Friday, March 18, 2016 at the Beach Evangelical Church with Pastor Ben Baker officiating. Interment will follow services at the Beach City Cemetery. Silha Funeral Home of Beach has been entrusted with the arrangements.
Gladys Rena Ridenhower Berger was born on December 5, 1919 to John Victor and Jessie (Franzen) Klein at Sentinel Butte, North Dakota. She grew up in the Square Butte area and attended the Square Butte School.
Gladys married Robert “Bob” Ridenhower on February 3, 1939 in Wibaux. They worked on ranches in the Sentinel Butte area until moving to Trotters in the early 1940’s. She raised a big garden and did lots of cooking and canning for her family of eight. The family moved to a farm east of Sentinel Butte in the fall of 1950. Bob farmed and worked for the NPRR. During those years, Gladys worked at various jobs including Bublitz Jewlery, Johnstone Memorial Hospital and painting numerous houses and barns. Six children were born to them: Robert James, Gladys Jean, Howard, Judy, Marilyn and Gary. Bob passed away in 1973 and Gladys continued painting for several years. She was united in marriage to Edward Berger on April 8, 1983. They were married for thirty-one years, until Ed’s passing in 2014.Gladys gained three step-daughters, Shelly, Lynette and Rynell from this marriage.
Gladys enjoyed visiting with folks, sewing, quilting, crocheting and knitting. She had many friends who enjoyed her friendly smile and generous concern. Gladys was a long time member of the Beach Evangelical Church. She taught Sunday school and enjoyed Women’s Fellowship for many years.
Gladys was preceded in death by her parents, Vic and Jessie; her husband Bob and her husband Ed; her sons, Jim and Howard Ridenhower; her brothers, John and George Klein and Ed Olson and her sisters, Mabel Olson and Alice Wentland.
