Cathleen I. “Cathy” Bernhardt, 74, formerly of Milwaukie, Ore., died April 1, 2016, in Beaverton, Ore., following a long battle with cancer. Services will be held at 9 a.m. MDT Tuesday, April 26, at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Dickinson. Inurnment will be at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Dickinson.
She is survived by her sisters, Betty Campo, Lafayette, La., Marie Thorell, Handford, Calif., Marge Focht, Hebron, and Ann Maresh, St. Cloud, Minn.; and her brothers, Leonard Bernhardt, Beaverton, Ore., and James Bernhardt, Dickinson. (Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson)

Cathleen I. “Cathy” Bernhardt, 74, formerly of Milwaukie, Ore., died Friday, April 1, 2016 in Beaverton, Ore., peacefully following a long courageous battle with cancer. Cathleen’s Mass of Christian Burial will be at 9 a.m., Tuesday, April 26, 2016 at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Dickinson, with Fr. Shannon Lucht as the celebrant. Inurnment will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Dickinson.
Cathleen was born on November 17, 1941 to the late Sebastian and Katherine (Schmidt) Bernhardt of Dickinson. After she graduated from High School in Taylor, she went on to attend Brown College in Minneapolis, Minn. She worked in Washington, DC for the Navy Department; the Judge Advocate General office in Arlington, Va.; then moved to Louisiana, then to North Dakota and later to Oregon with employment at the US Fish & Wildlife Service in Portland Ore. She had many interests in health, metaphysics, astrology, arts & crafts, music, hospice care, history, current events, and writing.
She is survived by sisters: Betty Campo, Lafayette, La.; Marie Thorell, Handford, Calif.; Marge (Gene) Focht, Hebron; Ann (Ray) Maresh, St. Cloud, Minn.; and by brothers: Leonard (Georgene) Bernhardt, Beaverton, Ore., and James Bernhardt, Dickinson; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Sebastian and Katherine Bernhardt, one sister, Linda Kjerstad; brothers-in-law, Vince Campo and Wendell Thorell; and a sister-in-law Karen (James) Bernhardt.
A special thanks to Leonard & Georgene Bernhardt for the timely gentle care given to Cathy and to caregiver Sidonia of a Foster Home Care for adult women in Beaverton, Ore. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Home on the Range, Sentinel Butte.
