Lonnie D Holt was born at home in Aledo, Illinois. Lonnie was the 10th of 12 children to Ray and Mary Holt. Lonnie was 19 years old when he enlisted and ended up serving 23 years in the U.S. Navy working his way through the enlisted to officer ranks (from E1-E7 to W-1&2 to 02, 03 and 04). He is the only member of the Holt family so far whose attained in the Navy-the high rank of Lieutenant Commander before retiring.
Dad then worked another 15 years as a warehouse manager for Seminole Electric in Palatka Florida. Then on March 31, 1995, my Dad retired for the last time-living off of two retirements would allow him and Mom to travel and buy a place and build in the mountains of West Virginia, above Grandma Crafts home (Mom's Mom)
He loved woodworking, traveling, reading, watching the news, and his grand children Lorin (Lj), Joshua I.D. (Josh) and Rebeka D-M (Beka). He loved my Mom so much, that when she died, a part of him died. The months following was very hard for him. Two years later, Dad met and married Helen, he wasn't as lonely then and I knew Mom would approve and understand. My Dad, was able to hold his 1st and only Great Grandchild before he went to be with my Mom & Greg....Carmen Marie Jacolyne Holt. The photo of him holding Carmen is precious, I only wish Mom could have held her as well.
I'll miss and Love you Dad, always.

Lonnie Dean Holt, 75, of Welaka, Fla., passed away on Saturday, May 11, 2013 in Daytona Beach, from complication following surgery.
Lonnie was born on Nov. 23, 1937, twin to Lannie G., in Aledo, to the late Ray C. Holt and Mary L King Holt. During their high schoool years they worked at Quinn Bros. Grocery. They graduated in 1955 from Aledo High School in the first Senior Class. They enlisted in the U.S. Navy in August 1956. Lonnie retired as a Lieutenant Commander, Supply Corps, after 23 years of faithful service, which included the Cuban Missile Crisis and Vietnam War era.
After his retirement from the Navy, he went to work for Seminole Electric for 15 years as a supply manager from which he retired as well. Lonnie enjoyed wood working, fishing and traveling. He was a member of Georgetown Methodist Church. Lonnie was married to Evelyn Craft Holt for more than 44 years. After Evelyn's passing, God brought Helen into his life. They married and enjoyed years of being together, going to church, traveling and watching their grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow. He was a member of the American Legion, Palatka, Fla.
He was preceded in death by his former wife Evelyn, son Gregory, brothers Raymond, Paul, Ernest, Charles and James Holt; sisters Barbara and Darlene.
Survivors are his wife Helen of Welaka, son David Dean Holt and wife Terry of Pomona Park, Fla. Grandchildren, Lorin (L.J.) & (Angie), Joshua and Rebeka (Beka); great-granddaughter Carmen Holt. Helen's children, son Paul, daughters, Dana and Carolyn. Brothers, Forrest (Texas), Lannie (Maine), Jack (South Carolina) and sister Maryjane of Illinois. Several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends to cherish his memory.
Funeral Services were held Friday, May 17, 2013, at Georgetown United Methodist Church. Interment at Eden Cemetery in Crescent City, Fla., with Full Military Honors. He was laid to rest alongside Evelyn and Gregory.
