LaVera Grismer, 70, Bowdle, died Wednesday, July 13, 2011 at the Bowdle Hospital.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 AM Saturday, July 16th at St. Augustine's Catholic Church, Bowdle, with Father Randy Phillips, Celebrant. Burial follows at the Church Cemetery. Organist will be Margy Bobby and song leader will be Jeanne Bieber. Vocal selections will be "How great thou Art", "Loving and Forgiving", "Prayer of St. Francis", "The old rugged Cross", "Song of Frewell", and "Amazing Grace". Mass servers will be Kalen and Jadon Geier and ushers will be Joe Geier and Scott Buss. Eucharistic Minister will be Teresa Geier. Offertory gift bearers and lectors will be LaVera's Granddaughters.
The Wake will be at Lien Funeral Home, Bowdle, 7:00 PM Friday with visitation beginning at noon. Family are asked to meet at the funeral home 9:15 AM Saturday.
LaVera LaVern Ehresmann, daughter of Magdalena (Christman) and Fred Ehresmann, was born April 14, 1941 at a farm near Hosmer, SD. She attended rural school. LaVera married Andrew Grismer on December 29, 1959 at St. Augustine's Church in Bowdle. They lived on a farm 2 miles SW of Hosmer for 11 years. In fall of 1970, they moved into Bowdle where Andy worked as a self-employed carpenter. From 1975-2002, LaVera was employed at the Bowdle Healthcare Center as a CNA (Certified Nurses Aide). LaVera also earned her Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification which fulfilled her passion to help people. Following her retirement, she continued living in Bowdle and, since March 2009 had resided at the Bowdle Healthcare Center. She belonged to St. Augustine's Church. She enjoyed spending time with her dogs, playing cards, bingo, polka dancing, and fishing. Her Grandchildren and great grandchildren were most precious to LaVera.
LaVera is survived by one daughter Rocky (Jerry) Junso of Watertown, SD; three sons—Vernon (Pam) Grismer and Shawn (Shawn) Grismer of Bowdle and Shannon (Tonya) Grismer of Sioux Falls, SD; one brother Gaylon Ehresmann of Eureka, SD; four sisters—Bernice (Perry) Rau of Java, SD, Marcella Maier of Eureka, Darnelda (Donald) Heilman of Bowdle, and Linda (Donald) Buss of Maple Grove, MN; 11 Grandchildren—MaKena & Riley Grismer of Bowdle, Jory, Jonathan and Tasha Grismer of Bowdle, Cara & Justin Allbee, and Christina (Dustin) Brownell of Watertown, Andrew and Charles Grismer of Sioux Falls and Celina (Steve Hulscher) Robertson of Goodwin, SD; and two great grandchildren—Taelyn Robertson and Case Hulscher.
She was preceded in death by her father on December 1, 1972, her mother on March 16, 1992, her husband on March 18, 1997, and an infant daughter (Mary).
Honorary bearers will be the Bowdle Healthcare Center Staff.
Casketbearers will be LaVera's Grandsons.
