Funeral services for Kenneth L. Schoen, 87, of Elizabeth, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 8, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Lanesville, with burial in the church cemetery.
He died Sunday, April 4, 2010, at Floyd Memorial Hospital and Health Services, New Albany.
He was born Jan. 17, 1923, in Elizabeth, to Gustav and Dora Hussung Schoen.
He was a farmer and a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Lanesville, and was a member of the voters assembly and the men's club in the church.
He was a former member of the Harrison County Parks Board, the Harrison County School Board, the Harrison County Farm Bureau Credit Union Board and was a former Posey Township Trustee.
Survivors include his companion, Deanie Houser of Elizabeth; sons, Kevin Schoen and his wife, Beverly, of Dayton, Ohio, Ronald Schoen and his wife, Cynthia, Russell Schoen and his wife, Cheryl, and Richard Schoen, all of Elizabeth; daughters, Elaine Allen and her husband, Doug, of Shepherdsville, Ky., Karen Schoen of Lanesville, Diane Turner of Corydon, and Denise McKnight and her husband, Brian, of Elizabeth; brothers, Darrell Schoen and his wife, Donna, of Bellingham, Wash., Wilbur Schoen of New Albany, and Marcell Schoen and his wife, Margery, of Elizabeth,; brother-in-law and friend, John Missi of Lanesville; sister-in-law, Maelee Walther of Corydon; 19 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Hazel L. Schoen, and grandson, Eric Schoen.
Visitation will be at the Gehlbach & Royse Funeral Home, Corydon, from 5 to 8 p.m. today, Tuesday, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, and after 9 a.m. Thursday.
Pallbearers will be Larry Hedden, Anthony Schoen, Scott Hutt, Rusty Crosier, Michael Schoen and Scott Nance. Honorary Pallbearer will be Brad Turner.
The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to either St. John's Lutheran Church or the Alzheimer's Association.
