Birth: Sep. 16, 1927 Death: Jul. 1, 2012 Bismarck Burleigh County North Dakota, USA Bismarck Tribune (Jul 04, 2012) Peter Schafer, 84, Bismarck, died July 1, 2012, at St. Alexius Medical Center, Bismarck. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 6, at Church of Corpus Christi, Bismarck, with the Rev. Dennis Schafer officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. Thursday at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck, and will continue at 6 p.m. at Church of Corpus Christi, where a vigil service will begin at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Peter was born Sept. 16, 1927, in Flasher, the son of Michael J. and Barbara (Fix) Schafer. He was raised and attended schools in Grant County. Pete was a graduate of Dale Carnegie Sales Course, John Deere Sales Training and Chicago School of Watch and Clock Repair. He was a member of the 188th Field Artillery, North Dakota National Guard for eight years and served in the military during the Korean Conflict. He was also a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks and the American Legion. Pete married Vivian Larson on July 4, 1951. He was employed at Bismarck Implement John Deere from 1953-83. He served as parts manager, sales manager and manager trainer. Pete received many service awards during his years at John Deere. Upon retirement, he worked eight sessions of the North Dakota State Legislature as the bill room clerk, supply coordinator, and sergeant at arms. Some of Pete’s hobbies were watch and clock repair and gardening. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Leo and Otto; and one sister, Sister Charlene (Caroline).
