Mary Adeline (Fite) Nachtigal was born on November 13, 1925 to Leslie A. and Francis (Meyer) Fite in Platte, SD. She attended LaRoche School, graduated from Platte High School in 1943 and went on to Rapid City Business College. On April 25, 1947 Mary was united in marriage to James A. Nachtigal at the United Church of Christ in Academy, SD. Together they raised five children while building the family farm. Mary was a member of the Academy United Church of Christ, served on the board of Abbott House and the Platte Community Foundation, as well as being an active supporter of the American Cancer Society. She enjoyed their family fishing trips, loved cheering on the Minnesota Twins and discovering artifacts. She took pride in watching her kids and grandkids in their sporting events. Mary and Jim always looked forward to a winter trip with friends. Recently, she loved getaways with family – casino trips were a favorite of hers. Grateful for having shared in Mary’s life: her five children: Gary (Anita) Nachtigal, Don (Deb) Nachtigal, Dave Nachtigal (Julie), Kathy Pranger and Karen (Rollie) Warejcka all of Platte, SD; 15 grandchildren: Melissa (Mark) Godber, Jason (Vera) Nachtigal, Colin (Heather) Nachtigal, Jesse (Denice) Nachtigal, Bill (Leah) Nachtigal, Nicole (Aaron) Emerson, Ted (Alisa) Nachtigal, Andrew (Alisha) Nachtigal, Charles (Jessie) Nachtigal, Kylie (Tyler) Hoffman, Katy (Tyler) Samuelson, Joel (Suzie) Pranger, Wade Warejcka, Ryan Warejcka and Luke Warejcka; 25 great grandchildren; a great-great grandchild; a brother-in-law, Glen Nachtigal; seven sisters-in-law: Patricia Fite, Fern Wagner; Doris Duba; Ruth Anton; Florence (Roger) Lang, Irma Natvig and Patricia Nachtigal; along with many nieces and nephews. Mary was preceded in death by: her husband, James A. Nachtigal (2008); her parents, Leslie and Francis Fite; three brothers: Julius, George and Gene Fite; and two infant granddaughters.
