Elmer Faul
Elmer Faul, 99, rural Cathay, passed away Friday, January 5, 2018 at the Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd in New Rockford where he had resided since February of 2016.
Elmer Faul , son of Otto and Mary (Dietz) Faul was born June 2, 1918 on the family farm in Germantown Township near Cathay where he grew up and attended a nearby country school.
Elmer was a jack of all trades and was a true example of a hard working man. He worked as a carpenter for 60 years, until he was 93 years old.
He began farming in the Hamberg area and later moved to the Faul family farm northwest of Cathay in 1947. On December 31, 1945 he was married to Minerva Bergrud.
Elmer was a long time member of the Germantown Baptist Church where he taught Sunday School and served as trustee. He also attended Baptist Churches in Heaton, Fessenden and Cathay until their closure.
He was Germantown Township assessor for many years and was active in the Cathay Fire Department and gun club.
Elmer and Minerva raised 3 foster children for several years.
He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Minerva; 1 sister, Verna Mae Johnson of New Concord, OH; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Elmer was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Ervin, Martha, Lawrence, Irene and a baby brother; and a foster son, Gustav.
A private family service will be held. Visitation will be held Tuesday, January 9, 2018 from 12:00 to 2:00 P. M. at the Nelson Funeral Home in Fessenden.
