Emma Jordan was born July 31, 1917 in the Grassy Butte area, the daughter of Adam and Flora (Rice) Jordan. As a small girl, the family moved northwest of Killdeer. She attended school at Killdeer, often walking five miles in the cold of winter. As she grew up, the Jordan family moved about 20 miles north of Gladstone.
On May 31, 1937, Emma married George N. Heiser at Hirschville. They purchased a farm 23 miles northeast of Dickinson, where they remained until November 1961, when they moved into Dickinson. To this union two daughters were born, Eileen and Gladys. Emma was a typical farmwife, raising chickens, milking cows and feeding hogs. She always raised a huge garden giving a lot of it away. She did a lot of canning fruits, vegetables and jelly. She was an excellent cook and baker too.
In her spare time she enjoyed needlework and sewing. She embroidered dishtowels and every family member received several sets. Her pride showed in all the clothes she sewed for herself and others too.
After moving to Dickinson in 1961, George continued to dig water wells. They also sold fishing bait in the shop called “Minnow Haven”. Emma moved to Evergreen in July 2008 to January 2010, then to St. Benedict’s for a short time and on to St. Luke’s Home, where she passed away.
Emma is survived by her daughters, Eileen Heinert and Gladys Weiler; six grandchildren, Sharol (Mark) Haugen, Kevin (Laurie) Heinert, Curt (Marilyn) Heinert, Dean (Tammy) Weiler, Doreen (Kevin) Senn and Carla (Trevor) Wilson; 12 great-grandchildren, Melissa (Dustin) Humphrey, Brandon Heinert, Rachel, Jacob and Joshua Heinert, Taylor Kurtz, Nathan and Olivia Weiler, Samantha and Tyler Senn, Logan and Peyton Wilson; one great, great-grandson, Logan Humphrey; sisters, Julianna Jahner, Eleanore (Bill) Steckler and Caroline (Nick) Weinberger; and sisters-in-law, Tillie Jordan and Ruth Jordan. She was preceded in death by her husband, George on April 20, 2000; her parents; sons-in-law, Cornie Weiler and Peter Heinert; great-granddaughter, Sarah Ann Haugen; brothers and sister-in-law, Max, Harry (Cecelia) and Tony Jordan; sisters and brothers-in-law, Rose (Florian) Wanner, Tillie (Sebastian) Stroh, Raymond Jahner, and Paul Heinert; and an infant sister.
