Margaret "Marge" Hopfauf, 73, Mandan, died Dec. 22, 2004, at a Bismarck hospital. She was the loving wife of Jack Hopfauf, a devoted mother of nine children, a sister, a grandmother, a great-grandmother, an aunt and a friend of many. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 28, at Christ the King Catholic Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Al Leary officiating. Burial will be in Mandan Union Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday and 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Tuesday at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, where a Catholic Daughters rosary and Christian Mothers rosary will be held at 4 p.m. Monday, a Moose ritual will be held at 6:30 p.m. Monday and a parish vigil will be held at 7 p.m. Monday.
Margaret was born April 9, 1931, the daughter of Ralph and Margaret (Hoffman) Ferderer. She was raised and educated in country schools and received her GED later in life from Mandan Senior High School.
On Oct. 26, 1948, she married the love of her life, Jacob "Jack" Hopfauf, in Crown Butte, and celebrated 50 years of marriage, prior to his death in 1999. Marge was blessed with a full life having nine children, 18 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She worked 40-plus years as a banquet waitress at the Holiday Inn, the Sheraton, the GP Hotel and the Town House, where she loved being of service to others. She also worked in the administrative office for Developers Incorporated.
She was an active member of the Mandan Eagles Club, the Mandan Moose Club, the KC Club, the Golden Age Club and the Catholic Daughters.
She enjoyed many activities, including caring for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She deeply loved her children, sisters and brothers. She also enjoyed cooking, card playing, bingo, square dancing and volunteering at Christ the King and Liberty Heights Senior Center, and will be missed by many. One of her thrills was being a contestant on "The Price Is Right" and hearing, "Marge Hopfauf, come on down."
She is survived by four daughters, Jacquelyn Hahn, Grand Island, Neb., Laura Helbling, Mandan, Marlys Hopfauf, Bismarck, and Mary Mieras and her fiancé, Kevin Arnet, Sebastian, Fla.; five sons and four daughters-in-law, John and Melody, Brad and Lynette, and Dean, all of Mandan, Dwight and Lynn, Wisconsin Rapids, Wis., and Scott and Kareen, Bismarck; two brothers and sisters-in-law, George and Lula Ferderer and Bill and Clara Ferderer, all of Mandan; one sister and brother-in-law, Kathryn and Max Erhardt, Center; one brother-in-law, Joe Weber, Mandan; and one sister-in-law, Irene Ferderer, New Salem.
She was preceded in death by her spouse, Jack; her parents, Ralph and Margaret Ferderer; her in-laws, John and Wilhelmina Hopfauf; her sister, Eva Weber; her brother, Roy Ferderer; and her grandson, Jake Hahn. (Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan)
