Elizabeth (Betty) Schaff Hopfauf, 95, Seattle, WA formally of Bismarck, passed away on April 9th, 2015 at the Cristwood Nursing Home in Seattle, Washington. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, April 24, at 10:30am at the Church of Corpus Christi, 1919 N 2nd Street, Bismarck. A reception will follow the service at the church. Burial will be at 1:00pm at North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, 1825 46th Street, Mandan.
Visitation will held at the Bismarck Funeral Home, 3723 Lockport Street, on Thursday, April 23 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm, with a vigil and rosary starting at 7:00pm.
Betty was born on November 14th, 1919 in Ryegate, Montana to Adam Schaff and Veronica Emter. She grew up in Bismarck, North Dakota. She received her high school GED and was later the banquet facility manager at the Grand Pacific Hotel, Holiday Inn and Sheraton Inn. She enjoyed playing cards, bingo, fishing, dancing and gardening. Betty always had a positive attitude, a reason to laugh, and will forever make us smile.
On a winter day in 1947, Betty married Christian Hopfauf in Bismarck, North Dakota. Their marriage lasted an amazing 61 years. Betty was happy to belong to Corpus Christi Catholic Church, where she was also a Eucharistic Minister and a member of the Women’s Guild. In 1997 she received the Helping Heart Award when she was a volunteer at Ruth Meiers Hospitality House. She also volunteered with Meals on Wheels.
Betty is survived by her sons, Tim (Marie) & Greg Hopfauf and her daughter Lorri (Stuart) Kostenko; and her son-in-law Craig Scott; her brothers, Matt Schaff, Michael Schaff, Lawrence Schaff and Dominic Schaff; her sisters Florentine Obie Malsbury, Eva Francisco and Rose Francisco; her grandchildren Nathan (Tasha) and Tara Scott, Libby and Emily Hopfauf, Virginia Hopfauf and Lucas, Evan and Austin Kostenko; her great grandchildren Jaden, Carter and Riley Scott, Cole and Ethan Hopfauf.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband Chris Hopfauf; daughter Karen Scott; her brothers Andrew Schaff, Leo Schaff; and sisters Margaret Fitterer and Ann Hellman.
