Services for Raymond L. Berreth, Bismarck, will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 5, at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church, Napoleon. Burial will be at St. Philip Neri Catholic Cemetery, Napoleon.
Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. today with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Napoleon.
Ray Berreth, son of John and Pauline (Mueller) Berreth, was born April 4, 1937, in Dawson. He grew up and attended school in Dawson, graduating from Dawson High School in 1955. In October 1958 he married Bernie Mitzel of Napoleon and happily shared 56 years of marriage together. Ray worked in gas stations and managed clubs and his love for carpentry employed him most of his life until retiring in September 2013. In his pastime Ray enjoyed fishing, hunting, watching old westerns and game shows, playing bingo and computer games and working on circle word finds. Ray was a very kind and gentle man. He was a wonderful husband and provider for his family. He loved to joke around with people and laugh.
Ray passed away peacefully after many health issues Aug. 2, 2014, at the Napoleon Care Center. He was 77 years old.
Ray will be so missed by his wife, Bernie; his children, Rae (Bernie) Eckroth, Robert, John (Deann), Lori (Jim) Chase, Lee (Travis), Jody, and Michael (Bob); and his grandchildren, Jeremy, Cody, Amber, Nicole, Kaitlyn, Ashley, Amie and Sean. He was a father figure to two precious granddaughters, Ashley (Dustin) Peyer and Amie Berreth. He also leaves four great-grandchildren. Ray also leaves a brother, Marlin (Donna) Berreth; and brother-in-law, Tony Mitzel.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents, his father and mother-in-law, Anton and Magdalena Mitzel; a grandson, Justin; his sister, Delores Stroh and her husband, Harold; sisters-in-law, Leona Mitzel and Marie Lees; and brother-in-law, Dave Lees.
