Milbert (Mibbs) Kirschenmann, 75, Fort Pierre, passed away Sunday, Sept. 7, 2008, at Select Specialty Hospital in Sioux Falls. He was fighting a longterm illness of COPD.
Milbert was born at Wakpala on Feb. 18, 1933, where he lived with his family until moving to McLaughlin in October of 1937. Upon graduation from McLaughlin High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy from November of 1951 to November of 1955. During his enlistment he served in the Korean War.
Upon his discharge from the navy, Mibbs owned and operated M&M Dry-cleaning & Laundry in McLaughlin until moving the business to Mobridge in 1978.
After selling the business, Mibbs moved to the Fort Pierre area. He managed the Moose Lodge in Fort Pierre and also managed the West Wind Bar in Pierre.
In 1992, Mibbs, along with his son, Kory, started the Steamway Carpet Care business in Fort Pierre. Mibbs retired in 1998. He enjoyed playing cards, hunting, fishing, grandkids, family and friends.
Mibbs is survived by his brother, Alvin and Sylvia, of Casper, Wyo.; son Kory and Sadie, of Blunt; daughter Kandi and Sam Gilkerson and grandchildren James, Andrew and Amy Gilkerson, of Pierre; and his little buddy, Max.
Mibbs was preceded in death by his parents, Emanuel and Christina (Aman) Kirschenmann; sisters, Hertha and Hilda (Blondie); and brothers, Walter, Rudolph and August. Mibbs will be missed by all who knew him.
