Gertrude “Gerti” Rau, 79 of rural Denhoff, ND, died Sunday, April 26, 2015 at the St. Alexius Medical Center in Bismarck.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 29 at St. Martin’s Lutheran Church, Anamoose, ND.
Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Hertz Funeral Home, Harvey, ND.
Burial will be at the Kassel Reformed Cemetery, rural Denhoff, ND.
Gertrude was born on June 16, 1935 on the family farm in Lincoln Valley area north of Denhoff, North Dakota. She was the daughter of Henry and Anna (Guthmiller) Rau. She grew up and attended the New Germantown Township School near Lincoln Valley. Gertrude sold Stanley Home Products for 40 years and Avon for 25 years. She worked for Premium Gold Flax near Denhoff. She also helped out with the farm chores including picking rocks and making hay on the family farm. They raised hundreds of chickens and had a large garden every year for many years.
Gertie was like a second mother to Maureen Maguire of Westminster, CO, Mike Maguire and Joe Maguire of Vernal, Utah, Kevin Maguire of Studio City, CA, Kelly Maguire of Castle Rock, CO, Kate Castro of Herndon, VA, these children she helped raise.
Gertie enjoyed quilting and reading.
Gertie was a member of the Kassel Reformed Church where she was baptized and confirmed. She was also a member of the Sheridan County German Singers, Twilight Homemakers Club of Lincoln Valley and the Anamoose Farmers Market.
Gertie is survived by her sisters, Frieda Rau and Alma Rau both of Harvey, Norma and brother-in-law, J Carlson of Cleveland, ND; nephew, John (Annie) Carlson of Mercer, three great nieces and one great nephew; sister-in-law, Edith Rau of Bismarck.
Gertie was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Elsie Rau, brother, Gerhard Rau; niece Ann Reutter.
