Birth: Nov. 3, 1881, Germany
Death: Apr. 10, 1937
Palmyra

Mrs. Elizabeth Sheaffer, wife of John I. Sheaffer, prominent Palmyra Township farmer, passed away very suddenly Saturday afternoon about 5 o'clock after an illness of only a week's duration. She had complained of not feeling well for about one week and believed she was suffering from an attack of indigestion. A part of the time she was confined to her bed and Saturday afternoon her condition appeared to be some worse and a doctor was summoned. She discussed her condition with her husband, who stepped from the room for a brief period during which she expired.
Dr. Kenyon B. Segner, coroner, conducted an inquest at the home Sunday morning at 10:30 and an autopsy revealed that her death was due to an embolism which originated from a tumor, causing her death. Neither Mrs. Sheaffer nor members of her family were aware that she was suffering from the large tumor.
Mrs. Sheaffer was born in Steinweiler, Germany Nov. 3, 1881, coming to this country as a young girl. She had been a resident of Palmyra Township since 1904. She is survived by her husband John I. Sheaffer, one daughter, Miss Kathryn at home, three sons, Harold and Erwin at home and Robert of Palmyra, four brothers, William Hummel of Sterling, Walter of Polo, Fred of Chicago, Chris of Lisbon, Iowa, three sisters, Mrs. Granville Reigle and Mrs. Wilbert Boynton of Palmyra, and Mrs. George LeFevre of Franklin Grove, and one grandchild. One son preceded her in death in infancy.
Mrs. Sheaffer was a devout and active member of the East Jordan United Brethren church.
Funeral services will be conducted from the family home, one-half mile northwest of the Sugar Grove church in Palmyra Township, Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 and at 2:30 from the East Jordan United Brethren church, the pastor, Rev. L. N. Main, officiating. Interment will be in the East Jordan cemetery.
