Verla Betty Faul

Verla Faul, 83, Harvey, ND died Monday, December 13, 2010 at St. Alexius Medical Center, Bismarck. Funeral services will be Friday, December 17 at 10:30 a.m. at the Mennonite Brethren Church, Harvey with burial in the Country Mennonite Brethren Cemetery, rural Harvey. Visitation will be Thursday from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Hertz Funeral Home, Harvey, ND.
Verla Heizelman was born on April 6, 1927 at Velva, ND. She was the daughter of William and Louise (Fryer) Heizelman. She grew up on the family farm and attended rural school. She helped out on the family farm prior to moving to Minot. Verla worked at Trinity Hospital in the laundry department and attended bible school in the evenings. Verla and Gideon Faul were united in marriage on October 17, 1948 at the Country Mennonite Brethren Church near Harvey. They lived and farmed near Coal Mine Lake south of Martin for several years before moving to a farm northeast of Martin. Gideon passed away on March 10, 1995. She and her son Morey moved to Harvey.
Verla was a member of the Mennonite Brethren Church and its Women’s Missionary Service group. She was also a member of Gideons International and the Martin Homemakers. Verla took great joy in making quilts and other items. She had a booth at the annual Mennonite Central Committee fundraiser held in Minot for many years. She was described by her family as a “Prayer Warrior.”
Verla’s hobbies included taking art classes. She painted many pictures that were gifted to family and friends.
Verla is survived by three sons, Eugene (Rosella) Faul of Bismarck, Reginald (Julie) Faul of Dunnellon, Florida and Morey Faul of Bismarck; two grandchildren, Preston and Chansler; one great-grandchild, Presley; sisters, Bernice Faul of Harvey; Geraldine (Leo) Schafer, Minot; brother, Jerry (Sharon) Heizelman of Minot; stepbrothers, Leo (Geraldine) Schafer, Minot; Dennis Schafer of Milford, Delaware; step sister, Jennelle Heizelman of Minot. Verla was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gideon; step mother, Sophia (Schafer) Heizelman; step brother, Arlo Schafer; sister, Vida Mae Peterson.
