Birth: Feb. 15, 1915 Sioux County North Dakota, USA Death: Oct. 17, 2003 Bismarck Burleigh County North Dakota, USA Rose Berger, 88, Center, died Oct. 17, 2003, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Martin's Catholic Church, Center, with the Rev. Chad Gion officiating. Burial will be in Center Community Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday from 1 to 2 p.m. CDT at Elm Crest Manor, New Salem, and from 3 to 8 p.m. at the church in Center where a parish vigil and rosary will begin at 7 p.m. Rose Geiss was born Feb. 15, 1915, north of Solen, the daughter of Vincent and Florentina (Kuntz) Geiss. She married Mathias "Matt" Berger there on April 2, 1940. They farmed south of Center for many years. Matt died on Jan. 25, 1998. Rose is survived by her four daughters and three sons-in-law, Elizabeth Hazel, Center, Edith and Gene Albers, Hannover, and Frances and Ben Fuchs and Katherine and John Kautzman, all of Center; her son and daughter-in-law, Nick and Cleora, Center; 16 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Angeline Dilger, Betty Vaughn and Monica Staudinger; and two brothers, Vincent and William Geiss. Her parents; her husband, Matt; three sisters; and seven brothers preceded her in death. Memorials are preferred to Elm Crest Manor in New Salem.
