Mrs. Barbara Heinz, pioneer of Mandan and Hazen died Friday morning at 8:30at the Peter Keller residence in Mandan, where she had been making her home. Death was caused by pneumonia.
Funeral services were held in the St. Joseph's Catholic church in Mandan. Pallbearers were six grandsons, Jake, Johnny and Raphael Schwab, Frank Pfliger, Frank and Eugene Heintz.
Mrs. Heinz was born in Russia, August 15, 1866 and was married to Frank Heinz in 1888.
They came to North Dakota in 1893, and farmed for 20 years north of Mandan. Later they moved to Hazen until the death of her husband in October 1929. She moved to Mandan about two years ago and made her home there.
Surviving relatives are six sons, John of Seattle, Washington; Alves of Butte, Montana; Nick of Hazen; Fred of Center, George of Hensler and Philip of Baldwin. Three daughters, Mrs. John Schwab of Richardton, Mrs. B. Pfliger of Hazen and Mrs. Joseph Schaff of Racine, Wisconsin, also survive. She had 66 grandchildren and 56 great grandchildren. Mrs. Heinz had two brothers, Fred Hoffman of St. Anthony and Nick Hoffman of Mandan.
She was a member of the Altar society of Center, North Dakota, the Rosary society of Mandan and the Altar society of St. Vincent, North Dakota.
