Deceased Name: Elaine Gustin
Elaine Gustin, 65, Mandan, died Feb. 16, 2006, in Bismarck, surrounded by her loving family.Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 18, at Christ the King Catholic Church, with the Rev. Albert Leary as celebrant. Burial will be at Mandan Union Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 9 p.m. today at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, where a rosary will be said at 7 p.m., followed by a parish vigil at 7:30 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour before the service on Saturday at the church.
Elaine was born April 29, 1940, in Golden Valley, the daughter of John and Katherine (Mueller) Murschel. She was raised and educated in Hazen. On Oct. 21, 1956, she married Leo Baier. He died in 1961. She married Henry Gustin on Sept. 4, 1965. Elaine worked as a banquet waitress for the Kirkwood Motor Inn from 1977 until 1995. She and Henry owned a local taxi serv ice which she drove taxi for.
One of Elaine's special talents was her sense of artistic expression. For many years, she enjoyed making silk and artificial floral arrangements which she shared at many craft shows. Cooking was another example of her talent. She was a great cook, especially with the old German dishes.
As an avid racing fan, her favorite was stock car racing, especially car No. 21 since her son, Wes, was the driver. A high point was to attend a NASCAR race in Phoenix. For other entertainment, she and Henry enjoyed going to the dog races, playing bingo and traveling.
Elaine's faith was central in her life. She treasured going to church around Christmastime to appreciate the beautiful Christmas decorations that adorned the church. Elaine's children and grandchildren always came first in her life. Her great courage during her illness will be a source of comfort and inspiration to her family.
Elaine will be remembered and missed be her husband, Henry, Mandan; three daughters and sons-in-law, Sandy (Roger) Thompson, Mandan, Kathy (Gary) Dobier, Mandan, and Cindy (Peter) Reiser, Bismarck; one son, Wes Baier, Maxbass; nine grandchildren, Cody and Jesse Baier, Steven, Kimberly, David and Jonathan Dobier, and Jon, Michael and Nicole Reiser; one great-grandchild, Chloe Dobier; and one brother and sister-in-law, Donald (Geraldine) Murschel, Hazen.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Leo; and her parents.
