126th Mich Ing Co D
A sargent in Co D of the 126th Infantry, 32nd Division Flieman left Holland on Oct 25, 1940 for Military training. He was home from October 1941 to April 1942 with an honorable discharge. He returned to service and went with the Holland National Guard Unit into the New Guinea Buna campaign. He was wounded four times by Japanese light machine gun slugs while storying an enemy position. He was later discharged. He was inducted into the army hall of fame of 1940 and was in training for a year at Camp Beauregard and Camp Livingston in Louisiana. He had 12 years if service in the Michigan National Guard and US Army. Source: Holland Sentinel 7-15-1944 and A book written by Randy Van De Water.

John Flieman Jr., 83 of Holland, died today, June 30, 1995 at his home.
He was a member of the Disabled Veterans and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. A former member of South Shore Baptist Church, he was instrumental in forming that church. At the time of his death, he was a member of Calvery Baptist Church.
A former employee of H.J. Heinz Co., he was president of its union for 13 years. He was also a member of the National Guard 126th Infantry Division Company D and received the Purple Heart.
He was preseded in death by a daughter, Kathy Ann Flieman-Caster, in 1970.
Surviving are his wife, Jane; his children, John and Jody Flieman of Jacksonville, Fl; Shevonne and David Hartfield of Allegan; Rylenn and Ellen Flieman of West Olive; Robert and Roxanne Flieman of Hudsonville; Patricia and Wayne Webb; Thomas and Bonnie Flieman, all of Holland; and Laura and Jerry Norton of Bradenton Fl; nine grandchildren; a sister Lillian Cook of St Petersburg, FL., brothers and sisters-in-law, Gerald Looman of Holland, Cornie Overweg and Connie fisher of Zeeland and Ida Looman and Sena (James) Sytsma of Holland.
Funeral services will be from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Mulder Chapel, Dykstra Funeral Homes, 188 W. 32nd St.
