VIETNAM VETERAN
SGT. Jon Wesley Fisher, A CO, 3-60th, 9th Division, United States Army, Mobile Riverine Force,1967-1968, Mekong Delta, Vietnam 1969-1970, Bronze Star Medal W/Valor, 2 Purple Hearts.
Republic of Vietnam, 10 January 1968-Bronze Star Medal W/V
For heroism in connection with military action involving conflict with an armed hostile force in the Republic of Vietnam.
"Private First Class Fisher distinguished himself by valorous actions on 10 January 1968, while serving as a Rifleman with Company A, 3rd Battalion, 60th Infantry, 9th infantry Division, on an air assault in Cai Bo District, Vietnam. Immediately upon landing, Private Fisher's platoon was taken under intense rocket and machine gun fire. As the men were maneuvering to better positions, the platoon Sergeant's radiotelephone operator was wounded in an exposed position. Private Fisher unhesitatingly moved 50 meters to the wounded man's position and brought him back to friendly lines through a hail of enemy fire. Crawling forward again, Private Fisher secured the radio equipment, then returned and voluntarily assumed the duties of the radiotelephone operator.
Private First Class Fisher's personal bravery and devotion to duty are in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, the 9th Infantry Division and the United States Army."
