Leo was born in West Olive and moved to Holland with his family where he spent the rest of his life.
Leo was out on his own at age 17 and worked as a chef at a Hotel up until then, which his Mother and Father ran. He traveled around Michigan working at resorts and hotels up through 1917 when he went to Florida and worked at the Hotel Salt Air, in West Palm Beach.
1930 Census: Belding, Ionia, Michigan: Leo J. Meyer 36y-married-servant; Violet G. Meyer 35y-married-servant; Working in a Hotel-head: John Rumohs & his wife Majorie and two chidlren and 3 other servants.
He started Meyer's Bar B Que on Ottawa Beach Road, where he had a lunch counter, convience store and gas station/garage.
He died of bone cancer at age at the age of 61.

Leo J. Meyer, 60, died at Holland Hospital early Sunday morning after an extended illness. He was born in Holland to the late Mr. and Mrs. Fred C. Meyer and served in the armed forces in World War I. He married Miss Jeanne Hull in Bellaire, Mich. and in 1937 he established the Meyer's Barbecue and supermarket on the Ottawa Beach Rd.
He formerly served as a hotel chef, was a member of the Willard G. Leenhouts Post, No. 6, American Legion, the Disabled American Veterans and the Henry Walter Post of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He is also a member of Unity Lodge No. 191 F and AM, the Holland Shrine and of the Loyal Order of the Moose.
Surviving are the wife; one brother, Lester of Lansing, one sister, Mrs Delia Billings of Jackson.
Private funeral services will be held at the Nibblelink-Notier Funeral Chapel Wednesday at a.m. with Very Rev. William C. Warner officiating. Burial will be in Pilgrim Home Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral chapel tonight and Tuesday from 7 to 9.
