Bio: Glenn Finck, 91, died June 20, 2011, at the Mandan Living Center. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 24, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Patrick Schumacher as celebrant. Burial will be at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan, with military committal rites conducted by VFW No. 707 and American Legion Post No. 40.Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, where a parish rosary/vigil will be held at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour before the service at the church on Friday.Glenn was born Oct. 25, 1919, to Adam and Julia (Peltz) Finck in Elgin, where he was raised and educated.Glenn served his country proudly in the U.S. Army during World War II. While serving in the Philippines, he earned two Purple Hearts. After Glenn's military career, he returned to North Dakota and married Monica Boehm on Nov. 4, 1946, in Mandan, Having been a service station attendant in Mandan for many years, Glenn was a familiar face to his many customers. He was a partner in the business with his brother-in-law, Connie Boehm, extending his services to the Mandan area throughout the years.Glenn always had a smile on his face, which was his trademark. He was a fun-loving and outgoing person who enjoyed pool, which he played competitively, dancing and cards. Glenn also never missed attending softball games that his children played. He was a member of the Mandan Moose. Glenn was very close to his wife, Monica's family.Glenn will be greatly missed by his daughters, Gladys (Ed) Mahoney, North Tonawanda, N.Y., and Julia Hill, Albuquerque, N.M.; sons, Elmer (LaVonne) Finck, Hays, Kan., and Glenn A. (Gloria) Finck, John (Theresa) Finck and Pete (Nancy) Finck, all of Mandan; 17 grandchildren, Eric Finck, Aaron Finck, Bob Finck, Mary Cooper, Glenn Fink III, Ed Mahoney, David Mahoney, Ryan Mahoney, Maureen Mahoney, Kelly Mahoney, Anita Finck, Mike Finck, Nikki Finck, Jeremy Anderson, D.J. Campbell, Kyle Campbell and Bre Ann Finck; 22 great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Anna Finck.Glenn was preceded in death by his wife, Monica, who died in 2007; his parents; four brothers, Ervin, Rueben, Albert and Walter; and six sisters, Elsie Jacober, Esther Kohl, Nelda Bullinger, Gladys Valk, Agnes Ciavarella and Luetta Kelly.
