Jennie Wanner was born Feb. 25, 1914, in rural Belfield, the daughter of Anton and Eugenia (Ott) Obrigewitsch. She grew up and attended country school in Billings County. Jennie stayed at home and worked on the family farm, before marrying Nick Wanner on Nov. 11, 1936, at St. Boniface Church in Belfield. To this union six children were born: Theodore, Leona, Margaret, David, Eugene and Anthony. Together, Jennie and Nick farmed and raised their family.
In 1949, after the sudden death of Nick, Jennie and the family moved into Belfield. She began cleaning homes and babysitting. Jennie was also an exceptional seamstress and made clothes for area families, along with bridesmaid dresses and prom dresses. Jennie cleaned rooms at The Park Way Motel for 20-plus years. In the early 1980s, Jennie retired and remained in Belfield until 2007, when she moved to Evergreen. In 2013, she made her home at Country House.
Jennie was a great baker, especially when it came to making caramel rolls, poppy seed rolls and cooking old German dishes. Jennie crocheted, quilted and made afghans for others. Each of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren received a homemade item from “Grandma Jennie.” She liked to play cards at the Senior Center in Belfield. Jennie was a member of St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Belfield and served many hours at Adoration in church. She was the family prayer leader, and taught her family how to pray the rosary and attend church. Her greatest love was having her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren around her during special occasions. The more the merrier, for family was her pride and joy. A family highlight for Jennie was the Centennial Celebration of the Obrigewitsch homestead in 2008.
Jennie is survived by her sons, Theodore M. Wanner, San Diego, Calif., and his children, Nicholas (Lilly) Wanner and their children, Nicole, Natalie, Jayden, Stacey; and Michael (R.T.)
