Heather Ann (Heid) Nelsen was welcomed into God's arms on Tuesday, May 21, 2013, surrounded by family and close friends, after a courageous battle with breast cancer. Cremation has taken place.
Heather (Heid) Nelsen was born November 15, 1973, in Bismarck, North Dakota, to Ron and Sandy Heid. Heather attended New Salem Elementary and graduated from New Salem High School. She attended college at Dickinson State University, graduated from North Dakota State University and then attended Graduate School at Minnesota State University-Moorhead, graduating with a Master's Degree in Psychology. Heather was employed with BRIC (Bemidji Regional Interdistrict Council) Special Education Services Cooperation as a School Psychologist for the past 13 years. She had a true passion for the families and children she served and strived to make a difference each and every day. Her co-workers described her as caring, inspiring, compassionate, dedicated, genuine and beautiful inside & out.
Heather and Tim Nelsen were married on June 14, 1997. They welcomed their first daughter, Lindsey Hannah on July 21, 2003 and Taylor Hope joined the family June 28, 2007.
Heather will always be remembered for her beautiful smile, wonderful sense of humor and infectious laughter-she had the ability to light up every room that she entered. She loved WII dancing with her girls & friends, a good shopping trip to Target or just hanging out with her family at home watching movies and cuddling. Heather was one of those rare people who truly loved life and everything it had to offer.
Heather began her fight a year and a half ago, two days before her 38th birthday, and her determination has been an inspiration to all who knew her. In spite of the last year and a half being consumed with treatments and battling this disease, she continued to be a wonderful, caring, mother and wife to her family, and a kind, caring friend. Heather was fortunate to have her husband Tim beside her side the entire time, providing her with constant care, encouragement and the strength and love needed to fight each and every day.
Heather is survived by her husband Tim of 15 years, her 2 daughters, Lindsey and Taylor Nelsen, her parents Ron and Sandy Heid of New Salem, her brother Dan (Lane) Heid, Dickinson, her brother-in-law, Jonathan Elovitz , and nephew, Dylan Elovitz, Phoenix, Arizona, and her Grandmother Margaret Sturn, New Salem, as well as the members of the Nelsen family, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and many, many friends who all loved her dearly. She was proceeded in death by her sister Kylee (Heid) Elovitz on May 10, 2012, her Grandparents, George Sturn, and William and Elsie Heid, and uncles, Wilbert Heid, Oliver Fuchs, and Ben Kottsick.
