Sandra A. Heid, age 68, of New Salem, passed from this world on April 22, 2014, after a seven month battle with anaplastic thyroid cancer. Sandy, as she was known to all who knew and loved her, died peacefully at her home in the country in the presence of family and has been reunited with her two daughters in heaven. A Memorial Service to celebrate her life will be held at 10:00 AM, Saturday April 26, 2014, at St Pius V Catholic Church in New Salem, and immediately following will be interment at St. Pius Cemetery.
Sandy was born to George and Margaret (Doll) Sturn in New Salem on October 10, 1945. She attended school in New Salem graduating as an honor student in 1963 and, after 50 years, her classmates continued to be an important part of her life. Sandy married Ron Heid on August 29, 1969, in New Salem. She worked as a magazine salesperson, as a bank bookkeeper in Mandan, and for 30 years, planned, prepared, and served meals to the students and staff of the New Salem (later New Salem-Almont) School District until failing health took away doing what she loved.
Sandy enjoyed flowers and plants, reading, watching tennis, and The Golden Girls, cooking and baking, visiting with anyone, and gardening, but most important to her were her family and friends. A new acquaintance was a stranger only briefly. She was a wonderful person and will be missed by all who knew her.
Sandy is survived by her husband of 44 years, Ron, her son Dan(Lane) Heid of Dickinson, her sons-in-law Tim Nelsen of Bemidji, and Jonathan Elovitz of Phoenix, her three grandchildren, Lindsey and Taylor Nelsen, and Dylan Elovitz, her mother Margaret Sturn of New Salem, her sisters Janice (Larry) Wagner, Bismarck, Sherry (Gus) Ereth, Mandan, Peggy (Rick) Klatt, New Salem, Nony (Evan) Wilkens, Mandan, Stacey (Mike) Morris, Beulah, one brother, Rick (Kathy) Sturn, New Salem, four sisters-in-law, Anna Kottsick, Colleen Heid, Dorothy Fuchs, and Mit (Wally) Conitz, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews, and aunts and uncles.
She was preceded in death by her two daughters, Kylee Elovitz, who died on May 10, 2012, at the age of 36, and Heather Nelsen who died on May 21, 2013, at the age of 39, her father George Sturn, her father and mother-in-law Bill and Elsie Heid, and brothers-in-law Oliver Fuchs, Wilbert Heid, and Ben Kottsick.
