Elizabeth (Geiger) Glasser, 94, died May 19, 2011, at Elm Crest Manor, New Salem. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 23, at Christ the King Catholic Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Kenneth Phillips as celebrant. Burial will be at Mandan Union Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 3 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, with a Ladies of the Moose ritual at 6:30 p.m., Catholic Daughters rosary at 7 p.m. and parish vigil at 7:15 p.m. There will be no visitation before the service on Monday.
Elizabeth was born Dec. 10, 1916, in Mandan, to George Sr. and Catherine (Hatzenbuhler) Sturn. She married Frank C. Geiger in Crown Butte on Nov. 12, 1935. After moving to Tacoma, Wash., in 1969, Elizabeth married William J. Glasser on Dec. 12, 1969. Following William’s death in 1974, she continued to reside in Tacoma, returning to Mandan in 1990.
An avid card player, Elizabeth always played a competitive game of pinochle and rummy. She played cards every Monday with her sister and sisters-in-law on the Geiger side, until she went to Elm Crest Manor in December. A woman of many talents, she was well known for her wonderful cooking, German recipes in particular, embroidery and crocheting, as well as keeping a beautiful flower garden. She loved buying rosaries as she prayed it every day. Her faith and family was the center of Elizabeth’s life. She enjoyed traveling to the west coast to visit family and relatives. Keeping active in the community, she was a member of the Eagles, Ladies of the Moose, Catholic Daughters for 20 years and volunteered at Liberty Heights for numerous years.
Left with wonderful memories are her two daughters, Shirley (Vern) Schaner and Charolette (Jim) Sackman, Mandan; five sons, David (Sharon) Geiger, Kent, Wash., Ray (Lil) Geiger, El Mirage, Ariz., Larry (Shirley) Geiger and Bob (Kathy) Geiger, Mandan, and Terry (Leni) Geiger, Edgewood, Wash.; 17 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Ann Doll, Caroline (Wesley) Eggers and Rose (Conrad) Doll, all of New Salem, and Pauline (Fred) Cushman, Mandan; brothers, Matt (Clara) Sturn, Bismarck, and Frank (Margaret) Sturn, Mandan; sisters-in-law, Margaret Sturn, New Salem, Jeanette Sturn, Tacoma, Wash., and Katie Sturn, Mandan; and special friends, Beata Haag and Louise Sackman.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Frank Geiger, who passed away in 1964; her second husband, William J. Glasser, who passed away in 1974; her parents; two daughters, Linda Geiger and Bernice Geiger; brothers, Ralph (Frances) Sturn, George Sturn Jr. and John and Phillip Sturn; brothers-in-law, Eugene Gress and Matt Doll; and one grandchild, Vern Schaner Jr.
