Bio: Frank R. Glasser passed away peacefully at Sanford off Sunset, Mandan, on February 10, 2014. Frank spent most of the past year suffering from congestive heart failure and Our Lord Almighty called him home after 89 years on this earth. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday, Feb. 14, at 10:30 a.m., at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Msgr. Gene Lindemann officiating. Burial will be at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery.Visitation will be Thursday from 5 ? 7 p.m. at Bismarck Funeral Home with a prayer service at 7:00.Frank was born November 11, 1924 to Ralph and Monica (Sturn) Glasser in Mandan, ND. Shortly after that the family moved to Solen, ND where his father farmed. His biological mother died in 1934 and the family moved to Linton, ND and continued farming. Frank attended school in a one room rural school in the Linton area. He entered the military in 1944 serving his country during World War II with the 532nd Engineers in Luzon, Philippines and in Yokohama, Japan. After the war he returned and spent his last two years of active duty at San Diego Naval Station until his discharge in 1947.From there he returned to North Dakota and worked construction. He remained active in the Army Reserves and also served with the North Dakota National Guard. Construction was very much a pivotal part of Frank's life. During the course of his life he was a carpenter, cement finisher and he even did some bricklaying. In 1950 while working a construction project at St. Anthony, ND, a young woman named Dorothy Vogel assisted him unloading bricks and they became friends, which led to their marriage on January 16, 1951.On November 2, 1951 the first of eleven children were born. Frank worked numerous construction projects over the next sixteen years, but he started his own company, Glasser Concrete Construction, which he ran from 1967-1983. He spent his last six years working maintenance projects for the Bismarck Public Schools. He officially retired in 1989.Frank was a dedicated Catholic. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Bismarck and was very active member in church activities and served as an usher for many years. He was also very active in the Knights of Columbus (3rd and 4th degree), Eagles, American Legion, VFW, Moose, UTC and St. Anthony for Ryan.Frank is survived by his wife Dorothy, Bismarck, his children Dennis (Hye Su), Huntsville, AL; Roger, Bismarck; Raymond (Sue), Bismarck; Renee (Denny) Schwab, Bismarck, Pam Kiesz, Mandan; Donald, Bismarck; Frank Jr., Oskaloosa, IA; Barbara Walker, Tulsa, OK; Chuck (Mary), Bismarck; Erick (Laura) Bismarck; 17 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; brothers Joe Glasser, Linton; and sisters Maggie Kramer, Linton; Betty Fiest, Bismarck; and Florence Rohrick, Linton; two step-sisters Priscilla Kesler, Mandan and Ann (Joe) Bichler, Bismarck.He was preceded in death by an infant daughter Cynthia; his parents Ralph and Monica Glasser; step-mother Katie (Diesz) Glasser; brothers Mike and Peter; sister Diane Glasser; step-brother Ed Sehn; and three infant brothers.In lieu of flowers memorials can be given to St. Mary's Grade School.
