Peter P. Hopfauf, 82, Mandan, died March 21, 2008. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 24, at Church of Corpus Christi, Bismarck, with the Rev. Paul Becker officiating. Burial will be in Mandan Union Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 3 to 9 p.m. today and from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck, where a rosary service will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church.
Peter was born March 7, 1926, in Mandan, the son of Peter and Mathilda (Kautzman) Hopfauf. He was raised on a farm northwest of Mandan. Peter married Rose Zander on Oct. 28, 1946, in Crown Butte at Saint Vincent's Catholic Church. Peter and Rose lived on the family farm until 1955, when they moved to Mandan. After retiring from farming, Peter worked at Kennelly Furniture and later as a security guard at the American Oil Refinery.
Peter and Rose celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in 2006. A joy for them, as a couple, was traveling the U.S. Peter enjoyed playing pinochle and family outings. He was a lifetime member of the Mandan KC Club and member of Church of Corpus Christi.
Peter is survived by his wife of 62 years, Rose; his son and daughter-in-law, Darol and Nancy Hopfauf, Bismarck; his grandchildren, Keri Schantz, Fargo, and Erin Hopfauf, Bismarck; his great-grandchildren, Trenton and Tanner Schantz, Fargo; his sisters, Eleanor (Leo) Wetsch, Katie (John) Sturn and Marlene (David) Sautner, all of Mandan, Monica Luciono, California, and Rose Kary, Bismarck; his brother, John Hopfauf, Washington; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Pete and Mathilda; his sister, Magdaline (Pete) Markel; his brother, Emil; one brother-in-law, Ralph Kary; and two infant brothers. (Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck)
