Edward was born Jacob Edward Immel. He later took the name of Edward Daniel Scherer after immigrating to the United States. He was a small boy when his mother, Barbara Immel, brought him with her to New York City, where she met and possibly married an August Weber. She died when Edward was about 18 years old. He then traveled on the trains out West, eventually settling in Rains, Carbon, Utah, to become a miner. During his lifetime his jobs included being a union organizer, safety inspector, a Utah State Senator, and Sheriff in Salt Lake City, where he retired. He often worked at Strawberry Resevoir as a Sheriff in the summertime also. He loved to fish, tell stories, and pop popcorn. For years he got a big barrel of saurcraut from a friend who made it in Salt Lake City. He would always take us downstairs to get a plateful to help him eat it up.Edward married Anna Elisa Borup Cook, who was divorced from Dell Harvey Cook. She had a son named Dell Cook from her first marriage. Three years after Anna Elisa died, Edward married Helen Louise McGuire. He was ordained a Priest 30 Apr 1934, in the Rains Ward, Carbon, Utah by Benjamin Black. He was ordained an Elder 27 Oct 1935 by Clarence Reid. Sometime after his marriage to Helen McGuire he was excommunicated. He became a Mason and progressed very high in that organization before his death.
