Richard was born on December 7, 1929 to Frank G. and Mary (Beckler) Leingang in Solen, ND. He was raised and educated in St. Anthony, ND. He married Ann Miller on June 15, 1954 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Mandan. At the age of 18 he enlisted in the Navy, he served his country well until 1952 and remained proud of his military service all his life. While in the Navy he was stationed aboard the destroyer, USS Goodrich. When he returned home, he worked in the grocery business until retirement.
Richard was a compassionate, thoughtful and honorable man who profoundly loved his family and friends. He enjoyed every opportunity to spend time with them. Christmas, Thanksgiving and Easter were very special times for him, when everyone was together. His family will always remember the helping hand he would give them on their home projects or the love he put into his hand crafted wood projects; like his yard ornaments. Richard's compassion and enjoyment of life did not stop with his family, it extended to the customers and friends he had the pleasure of meeting over the years. He was a proud member of the American Legion.
Left with wonderful memories of him and an example of a life well lived, are his wife, Ann; daughters, Mary Ann (Curt) Simons, Baldwin, Alice (Lenus) Berger and Arlene (Tim) Oster both of Mandan; sons, James (Donna), Paul (Kelly) and Gerard (Tammy) all of Mandan; 16 grandchildren; 12 soon to be 13 great-grandchildren; sisters, Christine (Dick) Moon, Spokane, WA, Irene Leingang, Waseca, MN and Viola (Matt) Baltus, Minneapolis, MN; brother-in-law Bob Feiler, St Cloud, MN .
