WEST FARGO - A.C. "Art" Kleingartner, 83, West Fargo, formerly of McClusky, died Sept. 16, 2009, at Edgewood Vista Assisted Living, Fargo, after a long illness. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 20, at Faith Lutheran Church, West Fargo. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Fargo.
He is survived by his sisters, Olinda McCabe, Moorhead, Minn., Bella McKenzie, Albuquerque, N.M., and Marylou Levin, West Fargo; his brothers, Frank, Puyallup, Wash., Edward, Bloomer, Wis., and Allen, Fargo; one daughter, Susan Sanborn, Minneapolis; two sons, David, Altoona, Wis., and Jay, West Fargo; and five grandchildren. A. C. "Art" Kleingartner, age 83, of West Fargo, born December 21, 1925, died September 16, 2009 at Edgewood Vista Assisted Living in Fargo after a long illness. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Marge.
Art graduated from high school in McCluskey, ND and subsequently taught school there, until serving in the U.S. Navy as a submarine radio operator during WWII. Upon his return, he attended UND, marrying Marjorie Ferderer in 1951, while a student. He graduated with degrees in business, banking and finance.
After graduation, Art started a career in the insurance industry, and in the 1960's bought the West Fargo Insurance Agency, eventually constructing a new office building in West Fargo in 1982. Art was an active church member, who donated his time and talents to benefit his community, participating in many volunteer organizations along with his wife and family.
Art and Marge were happily married for 49 years before Marge succumbed to complications of cancer in 1990. Art continued to be active in his business until selling it before retiring at age 80.
He is survived by his sisters, Olinda McCabe of Moorhead, MN, Bella McKenzie of Albuquerque, NM, and Marylou Levin of West Fargo; brothers, Frank Kleingartner of Puyallup, WA, Edward Kleingartner of Bloomer, WI, and Allen Kleingartner of Fargo; daughter, Susan (David) Sanborn of Minneapolis; sons, David L. Kleingartner of Altoona, WI, and Jay (Lisa) Kleingartner of West Fargo; granddaughters, Nicole Kleingartner of Eau Claire, WI, and Alexa Kleingartner of West Fargo, and grandsons, Christopher Kleingartner of Chicago, IL, and Leo and Henry Sanborn of Minneapolis.
In Lieu of flowers the family wishes memorials to Faith Lutheran Church or Dollars For Scholars.
Visitation: Saturday, Sept. 19, 2009 from 5 to 7 with a prayer service at 7 in West Funeral Home, West Fargo, ND and one hour before the service in the church.
Funeral: Sunday, Sept. 20, 2009 at 1:30 in Faith Lutheran Church, West Fargo, ND.
Burial: Riverside Cemetery, Fargo, ND.
