seph Pleines, 90, Bismarck, died December 2, 2011, at a Bismarck hospital. A private family service will be held. Joseph was born on October 10, 1921, in Kidder County, ND, to John and Katherina (Guthmiller) Pleines. He grew up and attended school in rural Pettibone, ND. After helping on the family farm, he joined the CCC in Vermillion, SD. Joseph then joined the Marine Corp in 1945 and was honorably discharged in 1946. After the service, Joseph moved back to Pettibone and married the love of his life, Rose Hertel, on November 17, 1946. Together they ranched for thirty-five years and raised two children, Bernell and Karen. In 1979, Joseph and Rose retired and moved to Bismarck. Joseph enjoyed doing yard work and keeping an immaculate home. His horses took him to many out of state horse races. He enjoyed fishing and camping. Joseph is survived by his children, Bernell of Bismarck, and Karen Olson of Mandan; grandchildren, Scott (Merna) of Post Falls, ID, Christa (Wayne) Bronec of Geraldine, MT, and Paula Pleines (Paul Brown) of Gillette, WY, and Ryan of Sheridan, WY; great-grandchildren, Brandon, Shawn, Emmalena, Kyla, and Joseph; sister, Margaret Guthmiller and Eldora Reuther; and brother, Clarence (Phyllis). He was preceded in death by his wife, Rose, and brother, Arnold.
