Death: Feb. 4, 2014

On Feb. 4, 2014, Michael Kuntz, 85, passed away in the arms of his wife of 60 years.
Michael was born Aug. 14, 1928, in Regent, N.D. He was the eighth of 11 children born to Jacob and Rosa (Hochstein) Kuntz. He married Lorraine Slater on Oct. 26, 1954. He farmed in North Dakota before moving to Montana to work in the oil fields. He worked for Kuntz Construction in Hardin for many years while raising his own family of six children. His skills as a backhoe operator were legendary and he would lend a hand to anyone in need. Mike was a "Jack-of-all-trades." His common sense could confound a boardroom of PhDs, and his work ethic could astound any management team. He had an unabashed ability to engage complete strangers that could shock, amaze, and inspire those with him. He could waltz, polka, and coax music from any instrument he laid his hands on.
He was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus for 67 years. He enjoyed tinkering with wood products, going to auctions, reading, puzzles, and cooking. His life was defined by his absolute devotion to his faith in God, his selfless service to others, and his steadfast loyalty to family. Mike proved that real men also provide for their families by cooking for them, calming crying babies, changing dirty diapers, and cleaning up after themselves.
He was preceded in death by his son, Leslie Paul, three sisters and one brother.
Survivors include his wife Lorraine, and his children, Richelle (Gale) Link, Denise (Vic) Uffelman, Germaine (Craig) Wagner, Rodney (Marcy) Kuntz, Ryan (Corinne) Kuntz. He endured decades of medical adversities so that his legacy of feisty determination could be passed on to his 12 grandchildren: Alycia, Jenna, Nathan, Trevor, Travis, Branden, Cameron, Cassie, Devin, Justin, Taalyr, and Taran; and 10 great-grandchildren: Audrey, Andrew, Reagan, Zachary, Leann, Gaibryl, Javen, Patience, Alaina and Emmah.
A vigil will be at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 7, at Bullis Mortuary. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 8, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, burial immediately following at Fairview Cemetery in Hardin.
A reception and celebration of life will follow at St. Joseph's. Memorial contributions in his memory may be made to the Big Horn County Historical Museum.
Bullis Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
