A.N. (Tony) Hatzenbuhler, 85, 408 15th St. N.W., Mandan, died April 5, 2000, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Robert Feeney officiating. Burial will be in Mandan Union Cemetery.
A.N. (Tony) Hatzenbuhler was born Aug. 13, 1914, to Nick and Celestine (Leingang) Hatzenbuhler in St. Anthony, N.D. He was raised on a farm and educated in the St. Anthony and Solen areas. He worked for the Farmers Elevator in Solen from 1934 until the fall of 1936. He married Louise Geiger on Oct. 1, 1935 at the Sacred Heart Church at Solen. Tony and Louise moved to Dawson, in the fall of 1936 where he managed the Farmers Elevator for one year. They moved back to Solen, where he managed the GTA elevator for 20 years. They then moved to a farm which was located a quarter of a mile north of Solen. Tony and Louise farmed there until November 1970, at which time they retired and moved to Mandan, where he lived until the time of his death.
He served as a trustee of the Sacred Heart Church in Solen for many years. He also served on the Ambulance Butte School Board. He was active on the Morton County Organization Board, and was a member of the Eagles, Moose, and the Mandan Knights of Columbus. He loved to play cards, dance, camp, fish and travel. Tony and Louise enjoyed traveling with friends and relatives.
Tony is survived by his wife, Louise of 64 1/2 years, Mandan; three daughters and sons-in-law, Diane and Frank George, Solen, Shirley and Earl Heinert, Bismarck, and Donna and Allan Belinskey, Bismarck; one son and daughter-in-law, Donald and Carol Hatzenbuhler, Solen; 14 grandchildren; 23 grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; one brother and sister-in-law, John P. and Florence Hatzenbuhler, Solen; five sisters and two brothers-in-law, Betty Kautzman, Kent, Wash., Rose and Tony Geiss, Solen, and Mag Balkowitsch, Caroline and Al Kuntz, and Irene Glasser, all of Bismarck.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Nicholas; one grandson, Frank Darwin George; one brother and sister-in-law, Jacob and Francis Hatzenbuhler; one sister at birth; and three brothers-in-law, Bob Balkowitsch, Lawrence Glasser and Tony Kautzman.
Tony always had time to help people in need. He was a true friend, a special husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great-grandfather. He will be missed and loved by his family and friends. (Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan)
