Alvina Nelson, 93, Linton, died Monday, January 8, 2007 at the Linton Hospital.
Funeral services will be held Friday, January 12, 2007 at the Linton United Methodist Church, with Rev. Rick Craig officiating. Burial will be in the Temvik Cemetery.
Alvina Nelson was born March 12, 1913 in Liberty Township, Emmons County, ND. Alvina was the fifth child born to Jacob and Karolina (Trautman) Bender. She was confirmed in the Lutheran Church.
Alvina married Peter C. Nelson, Jr. on June 13, 1934. They lived in Emmons County where they farmed near Temvik, ND. Alvina and Peter were the parents of four daughters. In 1979, they retired from farming and moved to Linton, ND. Peter died in 1989. Alvina was a lifelong member of the Methodist Church, attending in both the Temvik and Linton communities. She was involved in church activities. While in Temvik, she was a member of the Ladies Aide and in Linton, she belonged to the Martha Circle. Alvina was a lifelong member of the Homemaker's Clubs, including the Liberty Homemaker's in the Temvik area and LAW Homemaker's in Linton. She was also a 4-H leader and taught sewing classes for the Emmons County Extension Office. Alvina loved reading, sewing, quilting and crafts, as well as flower gardening. The highlight of her summers for many years was the trips she took with her daughters.
Alvina is survived by four daughters and two sons-in-law: Carol and Gordon Kremer of Sacramento, CA, Connie Reed of Valley City, ND, Linda Feist of Sandpoint, ID and Nancy and Harvey Jahner of Linton, ND; thirteen grandchildren and twenty-five great grandchildren; and five sisters and two brothers-in-law: Emma Schiermeister and Elsie Schiermeister both of Lodi, CA, Bertha Myers of Bismarck, ND, Ruth and Donald McHattie of Colorado Springs, CO, and Mildred and Richard Abbott of St. Paul, MN.
Alvina was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, infant son Michael Peter, two brothers: Edward and Martin; five sisters: Freida Stark, Martha Zoller, Mina Rogers, Ann Bender and Esther Harris; two sons-in-law: Ray Feist and John Reed and an infant granddaughter, Geraldine Reed.
