Jacob Senner, Hero of Fire, Died of Hurts
All of Lodi Mourns the Untimely Passing of Brave Resident
Lodi is thrown into great sorrow over the death of Jacob Senner, hero of the B.A. Towne fire a week ago last Monday, for the well known business man passed away yesterday morning at 2:30 at the Mason hospital.
From the time of Mr. Senner's injury, when he suffered a terrible compound fracture of one of his legs, he made a strong fight to live. Soon after he was taken to the hospital he wanted the doctors to amputate the limb for, he said: "I know I will die if you don't, for my mother died the same way about two years ago."
Everything possible was done to save the injured man. The physicians worked over him day and night. Consultations were held and it was decided that he was too weak to withstand an operation. The bone was terribly shattered. Blood poisoning and lock jaw developed. In a vain effort to save his life, the injured limb was removed two hours before he passed away.
Ever since Mr. Senner has been in business here, which is 15 years, he has been a member of the Lodi Business Men's association. He leaves to mourn his loss a wife, Emma Senner, and two small children, Robert, aged five, and Lorraine, aged three. He also leaves a brother, Reinhardt Senner, who will take charge of the business for his widow.
The deceased was also a member of the Lodi Eagles, the Lodi Chamber of Commerce, the Woodmen of the World and the Sons of Hermann.
The funeral will be held tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock from the funeral chapel of Hale & Bawden, thence to the German Lutheran church; where Rev. A.H. Wessling will officiate. Interment will be made in Lodi cemetery.
Out of respect to the departed member of the Lodi Business Men's association, all the stores in Lodi will remain closed for an hour during the funeral.
The deceased was very thoughtful of his wife and little children. He carried $10,000 life insurance, which will be paid at once to the widow. The day before his death Senner called in an attorney and deeded everthing over to his wife in order to eliminate the trouble and expense of probating his estate in case that he did not recover.
Deceased was a native of Russia and was aged 37 years, 4 months and 1 day.
