With family at her side, Jo Ann June Reiner Johnson 74, of Custer, SD passed on to be with Jesus Thursday, November 27, 2008 at Custer Regional Hospital
She was born June 3, 1934, in Scotland SD at home, to Christian G. and Sarah Kraft (Kusler). Jo Ann was educated in the Scotland Public Schools, graduating on May 22, 1952. Her Christian education was obtained through her family members and a local Christian Church. On November 16.1951 Jo Ann was united in matrimony with Arland M. Reiner in Tripp, South Dakota. Her husband was enlisted in the Armed Forces so the couple experienced a few moving adventures. Upon his Honorable Discharge the couple moved to Lead, South Dakota where Arland was employed by the Homestake Mining Company until his premature death in an automobile accident in the spring of 1956 which also left Jo Ann & her daughter with substantial injuries.
On June 26, 1957, Jo Ann married Robert M Johnson of Spencer, SD. After moving to Custer, SD they both worked for an Independent Telephone Company until purchasing the Harney Theatre in 1963. The business successfully ran under their proprietorship until its sale in 1984. Jo Ann was also a successful co-owner of "Bob's Sanitation & Septic System Service", and the "Chalet Souvenir and Jewelry Store"
Jo Ann was an extremely beautiful and intelligent woman, medical research on nutrition was high on her list of priorities as she herself was stricken with crippling Arthritis. Yet in spite of any blows life threw her way she had faith and just kept going. She refinished many pieces of furniture and created beautifully crocheted items for family and some friends. Medical issues rendered her much less mobile this past year and she missed her trips to the grocery store and Post Office etc, to check in on some of " Her Theater Kids!" So to all those Theatre Kids, She loved you!
Survivors include; one daughter, Connie Baldwin of Pringle, SD; two grandsons, Colin Christopher Baldwin (Elizabeth) of Vacaville, CA; Cory Christian Baldwin (Florencia) of Salt Lake City, UT, and one great grandson, Nicolas Baldwin also of Salt Lake Utah.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m., Monday, December 1, 2008 at McColley's Chapel of the Hills in Custer, SD.
Funeral Services will be held 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, December 2, 2008 at McColley's Chapel of the Hills in Custer with Pastor Bill Savery officiating, and 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, December 3, 2008 at Friedens Reformed Church in Tripp, SD with Reverend Greg Way officiating.
Interment will follow at Friedens Reformed Cemetery in Tripp where Jo Ann will at last be with the love of her life and the father of her daughter
A memorial has been established in Jo Ann's name to benefit the Custer Regional Hospital in Custer, SD.
